In der heutigen Zeit sind wir Zeugen einer stiirmischen Entwicklung von Rechenautomaten. Die Folgen dieser neuen Rechentechnik greifen in eine ganze Reihe von Fachgebieten ein, darunter natiirlich auch in die Statik der Baukonstruktionen. Wo dem Ingenieur fruher nur der logarithmische Rechenschieber und eine handbediente, bestenfalls elektrische Rechenmaschine zur Verfiigung standen, kann er heute bei seinen Berechnungen einen Rechenautomaten verwenden. Urn diese modernen, schnellen und hinsichtlich der Verwendungsmoglichkeit qualitativ andersartigen Rechenmaschinen am best en ausntitzen zu konnen, mussen neue Wege mathematischer Formulierungen bau- mechanischer Probleme gesucht werden. Man muB Berechnungsarten einfiihren, die die Verwendung von Rechenautomaten bei verschiedenen Operationen gestatten, nicht nur bei der Losung eines vom Statiker aufgestellten Systems linear r algebraischer Gleichungen. Die Rechnung muB so gestaltet werden, daB der Automat aus einer kleinsten Anzahl von Eingaben nach einem vorbereiteten Programm selbst z.B. die Bedingungsgleichungen aufstellt, sie lost und aIle erforderlichen statischen und FormanderungsgroBen berechnet, aIlenfaIls auch weitere Rechnungen durchfiihrt. Dann erst sind die durch den Automaten gegebenen Moglichkeiten tatsachlich okonomisch ausgenutzt. Es handelt sich also urn eine Berechnungsart, bei der wir den Rechenautomaten nicht nur zur Mechanisierung der Berechnungen des Ingenieurs, sondern tatsachlich zur Automatisierung dieser Berechnungen verwenden.
