Es ist wohl ein Wagnis, wenn ein Nichtmineraloge eine "Technische Mineralogie" niederschl'eiLt., Venn ich trotzdem den Mut dazu aufgeLracht habe, so schopfe ich ihn aus zwei Erwtigungen. Erstlich war es del' Wunsch des Verlages, Lei einer Neuauflage meiner "Technischen Cesteinknnde" den mineralogischen TeE herauszunehmen und selbstandig e1'- scheinen zu lassen. Zweitens bin ich del' Meinung, dail Mangel Hnd sogar Fehler in mineralogischer Hinsicht fiir eine Tech- nische Mineralogie weniger schiidlieh sind als J\lHingel in bau- technischer Hinsicht, wenn ein reiner Mineraloge ein solches Buch veriassen wurde. Man kann mil' weiters vorwerfen, daH die gelegentlichen Aufzahlungen von Mineralvorkommen das Buch unnutz be- lasten; dies mag bis zu einem gewissen Grade zutreffen; an- dererseits abel' mahnen solche, den Bergban nnu den Faeh- mineralogen in erster Heihe angehenden Lagel'stattenhinweise den Bauingenieur zur Achtsamkeit, wenn el' in ihrel' Nahe bant nnd mit Auslaufern solcher Vorkommen zn reehnen hat. 1m ubrigen ist die Stoffgliederung und aueh die Darstel- lung dieselbe geblieben wie im mine>ralogisehen Teile der .. Technischen Gesteinkunde"; sie scheint sich bewahrt zu habcn; wenigstens sind mil' keine gegenteiligen Auilerungcn zu Ohren gekommen. Neben den wenigen Hauptbestandtei- len technisch wichtiger Gesteine bl'ingt das Buchlein auch eine groile Zahl von Mineralien, auf welche del' Ingenieul' selten stoilt, welche ihn abel' trotzdem interessicl'cn konnen; es will daher anch zum Nachschlagell dienen. Die Neuerseheinung wendet sich in erster Linie an den werdenden und an den bcreits ausgebildeten 'l'iefbauingenieur. Sie wiinscht abel' auch dem Hochbauer, dem Steinbl'uchfach- mann nnd dem, Virtschaftler bei del' Bestimmung del' in lV Vorwort.
