This groundbreaking guide delves into the innovative use of nuclear technologies to revolutionize global food systems and foster environmental sustainability. It explores new avenues within nuclear science, especially its contribution to reshaping agriculture, enhancing food security, and mitigating environmental challenges. Through innovative case studies and success stories, the chapters in this book examine nuclear applications ranging from radiochemistry in soil and crop management to radiation-based pest control.

The key themes highlighted in this book include the utilization of nuclear isotopes for soil fertility and water management, crop breeding for environmental resilience, and irradiation applications to ensure food security. Readers will gain innovative insights into how nuclear technologies can enhance agricultural productivity, reduce waste, and restore contaminated environments. Each chapter blends theoretical concepts with real-world applications, emphasizing practical knowledge to address global food insecurity and environmental degradation.

This is an essential resource for agricultural scientists, environmental researchers, policymakers, and students passionate about sustainable agriculture and conservation. It is equally valuable for nuclear industry professionals, educators, and anyone curious about how advanced technologies can create a greener, more resilient world.

Muhammad Mahran Aslam is a Distinguished Researcher under the IAEA ECUT program and a Ph.D. scholar at East China University of Technology (ECUT), China. His research focuses on nuclear waste remediation, working on various strategies to decontaminate radionuclides like iodine, uranium, and cesium 137, and exploring phytoremediation strategies using indigenous plants. He also serves at the Nuclear Institute of Agriculture (NIA), PAEC, leading projects on Brassica breeding, utilizing radiation induced mutations for improved oilseed crops. His expertise extends to nuclear applications in modern agriculture, soil health maintenance, agro waste management, and phytoremediation. With 40+ publications, 100+ impact factor, and four years of foreign research experience, Aslam has published in leading journals and serves as an editorial board member and reviewer. His extensive expertise in nuclear agriculture, radiation induced crop improvement, and environmental sustainability positions him as a key contributor to advancing resilient food systems and clean environmental solutions.

Liu Yibao earned his Ph.D. degree from Tsinghua University, and he is currently a visiting scholar at the University of Muenster, Germany. He was former dean at the School of Nuclear Science and Engineering, East China University of Technology. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Chinese Society of Radiation Protection, a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Nuclear Technology. He and his team won the second prize at the National Teaching Achievements, the first prize at the Provincial Teaching Achievements, and the second prize at the Provincial Colleges and Universities Scientific and Technological Achievements. He has published three academic books, more than 150 scientific and technical papers, six authorized patents, and supervised more than 100 doctoral and master's degree students.
