The Solar Professionals Handbook: Principles, Design, and Installation is a book that is a complete technical base to the students, engineers and installers joining the solar energy profession. The work describes the principle of the photovoltaic power generation, the behaviour of sun radiation, the design of the system and its installation standards, the safety practice. Solar power has become a significant element of sustainable development due to global anxieties over climate change, fuel scarcity, and increased energy demand. The article emphasizes the fact that declining cost of modules and enhanced efficiencies have made mass adoption in residential, commercial and utility markets possible. The book starts with the explanation of the world energy transition and the principles of solar radiation such as the irradiance, insolation and the geometry of the sun path. It then discusses the physics of the photovoltaic effect and describes how modules are made, inverter technology and the balance of system. Later chapters are devoted to site evaluation, electrical design, calculation of mechanical loads, and installation. The subsequent sections elaborate on safety, commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting techniques and are in accordance to the international standards of NEC 690, ASCE 7-16, and IEC 61215. The last chapters cover business aspects of solar, such as permitting, net-metering and incentives, and then future trends in perovskite and bifacial technologies, grid integration, and energy storage. The handbook concludes that in order to successfully deploy solar, there must be regulatory compliance and accuracy in the technical aspect. This work undermines the gap between the theoretical and practical field methods by facilitating the combination of two concepts in both theory and practice. It puts stress on designing, installing safely, and continuous education of professionals. The book finally can be seen as a comprehensive manual to the implementation of solar projects through the whole process of concept to commissioning and is thus considered to be an improvement towards renewable energy and the world at large switch to clean power systems.
