Das Abstrahieren hat ihm immer geholfen, auf allen Gebieten zu Kenntnissen zu gelangen, sie zu ordnen, urn einzelne Wissenschaften ent- stehen zu lassen und vertiefen zu konnen. Nicht immer stand eine Theorie zur VerfUgung, wenn ein Problem zu bewaltigen war. Die Technik ist voller Beispiele dafUr, daB die Praxis oft der Theorie vorangeht und diese spater zur Verbesserung der erreichten Ergebnisse dient. 50 geschieht es auch mit der Theorie Technischer Systeme. Verfolgen wir zuerst die Entwicklung der Ansichten Uber Maschinen. In den frUheren Zeiten betrachtete man jede Maschine als ein Ganzes, das aus nur ihm gehorenden, eigentUmlichen Teilen besteht. Eine MUhle war entweder die untere oder die obere MUhle. Deshalb wurden in den alten BUchern einzelne Maschinen komplett beschrieben. Oft fehlte es an Begriffen fUr die Bezeichnung einzelner Maschinen (z. B. fehlt Ramelli, 1588, die Bezeichnung fUr "Pumpe"). Erst mit der GrUndung polytechnischer 5chulen (Paris 1794, Prag 1806) beginnt der 50nderungsprozeB. Zuerst werden Mechanismen von der allgemeinen Maschinenlehre ab- getrennt (Monge, Carnot, Rachette und Lanz). Es entstehen zuerst zehn Klassen und spater 21 Klassen von Mechanismen fUr die Verwandlung von Bewegungen in der Maschine.
