Im vorliegenden Werk werden zun�chst wichtige industrielle Arbeitsformen behandelt. Dabei wird der Begriff "humane Arbeitswelt" durch die Forderungen nach Produktions- sicherung und Arbeitssicherheit interpretiert. Diese Forderungen bestimmen das Sy- stern "Mensch - Maschine", zu dem die Arbeitsplatzgestaltung und die von der Arbeits- person zu handhabenden Betriebsmittel geh�ren. Betriebsmittel, auch Arbeitsmittel genannt, sind Werkzeugmaschinen, Werkzeuge und Vorrichtungen. Werkzeugmaschinen und Werkzeuge sind aktive Arbeitsmittel, da sie der �nderung von Form und Lage eines Werkst�ckes dienen. Vorrichtungen, die im allgemeinen Werkst�cke halten, st�tzen und f�hren, sind passive Arbeitsmittel. Die Abgrenzung ist jedoch dann flie end, wenn Vorrichtungen automatisierte Funktio- nen auszuf�hren haben. Hier werden insbesondere die passiven Arbeitsmittel behandelt, die als unentbehrliche Betriebsmittel sowohl zur Produktions-und Qualit�tssicherung als auch f�r die Arbeits- sicherheit und damit f�r die Humanisierung des Arbeitsplatzes ben�tigt werden. Solche f�r die Fertigung von Werkst�cken ben�tigten Vorrichtungen bezeichnet man auch als Fertigungsmittel. Diese Vorrichtungen sind zu unterteilen nach der spanlosen und spangebenden Fertigung. Eine weitere Einteilung der Vorrichtungen erfolgt in Werk- zeugspanner und Werkst�ckspanner. Besonders ausf�hrlich werden die Elemente der Werkst�ckspanner beschrieben, und an Beispielen wird deren Anwendung erl�utert. Bei den Ausf�hrungsbeispielen der Vorrichtungen f�r wesentliche Fertigungsverfahren wird insbesondere auf das eindeutige Bestimmen und Spannen der Werkst�cke hinge- wiesen. Gleichzeitig werden jedoch h�ufig in der Praxis vorkommende spezielle An- forderungen erl�utert, die Abweichungenvon exakten theoretischen Betrachtungen rechtfertigen k�nnen. Um richtige Ausf�hrungen von Vorrichtungen verst�ndlicher zu machen, sind bei einigen Elementen und vollst�ndigen Konstruktionen solche mit "falsch" bezeichneten Ausf�hrungen gegen�bergestellt.
