U putopisu "Afrika" (1930) Rastko Petrovic donosi autenticno i lirsko svedocanstvo o svom putovanju kroz tada slabo poznate i tesko pristupacne krajeve africkog kontinenta. Na ovom egzoticnom putovanju susrece se sa kulturama domorodackih plemena, ali i sa kolonijalnim svetom u kome se preplicu različiti jezici, obicaji i tradicije. Umesto da Afriku posmatra iz perspektive modernog evropskog putnika, Petrovic nastoji da razume i prihvati pogled njenih stanovnika, pazljivo belezeci njihova verovanja, rituale, mitove i sujeverja. Knjigu prozimaju simpatija, ljubav i razumevanje prema ljudima i prirodi koje upoznaje, dok se kao kontrapunkt javlja kritika zapadne, "belacke" civilizacije. "Afrika" je zato pre svega poetska slika egzoticnog sveta - raskosne tropske prirode, bogate faune, ratnika i kultura isprepletenih sa legendama i misterijama - u kojoj autor daje licni i emotivni dozivljaj kontinenta, bez opterecenja detaljnim geografskim ili socioloskim analizama. Posebnu zanimljivost predstavlja cinjenica da je Petrovic bio jedan od prvih Beogradjana koji su krajem dvadesetih godina XX veka krocili na africko tlo, sto je u to vreme bilo toliko neobicno da su mnogi cak sumnjali da se njegovo putovanje zaista i dogodilo.

Dodatnu vrednost ovom delu daje i Petroviceva sposobnost da sopstveno putovanje preobrazi u unutrasnje iskustvo - susret sa nepoznatim postaje ujedno i susret sa sobom, sa granicama sopstvenog razumevanja i predrasuda. Njegov stil je ziv, ritmican i cesto poetski uzdignut, cime se granica izmedju putopisa i knjizevne proze gotovo brise. "Afrika" se tako cita ne samo kao dokument jednog vremena i prostora, vec i kao univerzalna prica o radoznalosti, otvorenosti i potrebi da se svet sagleda izvan ustaljenih okvira, sto ovu knjigu cini trajno relevantnom i savremenom i danas.

About The Author

Petrovic, Rastko: - Rastko Petrovic (1898-1949) bio je jedan od najznacajnijih predstavnika srpske avangarde i modernizma. Osnovnu skolu i nize razrede gimnazije zavrsio je u Beogradu, a nakon povlacenja preko Albanije u Prvom svetskom ratu skolovanje nastavlja u Francuskoj, u Nici i Parizu, gde studira pravo. Po povratku u zemlju ukljucuje se u knjizevni zivot Beograda i 1921. objavljuje roman "Burleska gospodina Peruna boga groma". Od 1923. godine zapocinje diplomatsku sluzbu u Ministarstvu inostranih poslova i radi u vise evropskih gradova, a potom i u Sjedinjenim Americkim Drzavama, gde je i preminuo. Njegovi posmrtni ostaci preneti su u Beograd 1986. i pohranjeni u porodicnu grobnicu na Novom groblju.
