Buisman, Dale Ray: - "Dale R. Buisman is a retired Neonatal Nurse Practitioner whose 40+ year career caring for critically ill newborns was transformed by Long Covid in 2021. Born and raised in Minnesota, Dale discovered his calling in neonatal care while serving as a hospital corpsman in the U.S. Navy and dedicated his professional life to providing life-or-death care for the most vulnerable patients in healthcare. After graduating from the NNP Certificate program in 1990 and practicing in Texas before returning to Minnesota in 2000, Dale worked in NICUs until Long Covid fundamentally changed his cognitive and physical capabilities. What began as career-ending loss became an unexpected creative awakening - Dale discovered writing abilities he never knew he possessed. The neurological changes that ended his ability to make split-second medical decisions and lead resuscitation teams paradoxically unlocked new pathways for storytelling and spiritual reflection. His journey from commanding confidence in high-stakes medical situations to navigating the unpredictable challenges of chronic illness provides a unique perspective on vulnerability, adaptation, and finding purpose when everything familiar changes. Dale lives in Minnesota in a three-generation household with his wife Lucy, two daughters, a son-n-law and two granddaughters. Despite the isolation that Long Covid often requires, he has found meaning in documenting experiences that might help others facing their own impossible circumstances. This is his second published work, following the children's book "Righty and Lefty Reunited." His writing emerges from the intersection of medical expertise, spiritual faith, and the hard-won wisdom of learning to live with a fundamentally changed brain and body."
