This manuscript began as a series of emails I wrote at telecenters in Dakar, Senegal and Banjul, The Gambia in 2003. I emailed my friends and family back in the United States daily about my experiences while on my first trip to Africa. I received tremendous feedback. My cousin Jaymi said, "You must turn this into a book." So I did. This book is for all those bored souls, particularly graduate students and mothers of young children who long for an exciting life.
