Journals of Two Expeditions into the Interior of New South Wales (1820) is a historical book written by John Oxley. The book documents the two expeditions that Oxley led into the interior of New South Wales, Australia in 1817 and 1818. The first expedition was aimed at exploring the Macquarie River and the surrounding areas. Oxley and his team travelled through the rugged terrain, encountering various challenges including harsh weather conditions, difficult river crossings, and encounters with the Indigenous people of the region. The expedition eventually reached the Macquarie Marshes, which Oxley described as a vast, swampy area that was unsuitable for settlement.The second expedition was focused on finding a route to the west coast of Australia. Oxley and his team travelled along the Lachlan River, but were forced to turn back due to poor weather and difficult terrain. They then travelled north and discovered the Castlereagh River, which they followed until they reached the Darling River. The expedition eventually reached the area that is now known as the town of Bourke.Throughout the book, Oxley provides detailed descriptions of the landscape, flora and fauna, and the Indigenous people he encountered.
