Thrust into teaching people whose language he didn't understand in a country with a government that wanted to silence his voice, American weekly newspaper editor Jim Doerr, travels throughout the tropical Indonesian archipelago meeting unexpected challenges. The year was 1997. And things in Indonesia were about to change. In two previous trips, Doerr had encountered questions that he had been unprepared to answer. He was determined to make this trip different. He had mastered a few words and phrases in Indonesian. He brought note cards with famous sayings about the importance of free speech. But Doerr wasn't expecting to stumble into the highest levels of government intrigue. And a tropical romance was only a fantasy.

Mohn, John: - Author John R. Mohn is a retired high school publications adviser who has taught in Almont High School, Almont, Michigan; and in the following Kansas high schools: Shawnee Mission East, Great Bend, Ellinwood, and Washburn Rural. John and his wife, Chris, owned and operated a weekly newspaper, The Ellinwood Leader. He was a visiting professor at the University of Evansville, Evansville, Ind. For 20 years he spent summers in Indonesia as a newspaper consultant to the Jawa Pos Group. He is a member of the Kansas Scholastic Press Association Hall of Fame and a Distinguished Alumnus of Neosho County Community College, Chanute, Ks.
