About The Book

Record of the Buddhistic Kingdoms is a book written by the Chinese Buddhist monk and scholar, Xuanzang (also known as Hsien or Fa), in the 7th century. The book is a detailed account of his 17-year pilgrimage to India and other Buddhist countries, where he studied Buddhism and collected scriptures. In the book, Xuanzang describes the geography, culture, and religious practices of the countries he visited, including India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Central Asia. He also provides a comprehensive account of the Buddhist teachings and practices he encountered, including the different schools of Buddhism and their beliefs. Record of the Buddhistic Kingdoms is considered a valuable historical and cultural document, as it provides a rare glimpse into the life and beliefs of people in ancient Buddhist societies. The book also played a significant role in the spread of Buddhism to China and other parts of East Asia, as Xuanzang's translations of Buddhist texts were widely circulated and studied.1877. The narrative of a most extraordinary journey by a Buddhist priest named Fa Hsien who travels from China through India to Ceylon, on to Sumatra and back to China by sea; his object being to obtain copies of the Sacred Books of Buddhism for the further enlightenment of his fellow countrymen at home.This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
