Madrid, 2014-2015. José Amedo recibe una llamada de una misteriosa mujer venezolana. Previamente, un amigo suyo le había informado de que ella le iba a llamar. La mujer le cuenta que va a recibir una información de interés. Esa información consiste en una serie de documentos remitidos por un tal César Álvarez, padre de familia y profesor de artes marciales, en los que narra una increíble peripecia. Se ve obligado a aceptar el encargo de matar a un médico cubano que reside en Venezuela, que a su vez es corresponsable del presunto magnicidio de Hugo Chávez. Cuando ha realizado el encargo, se entera casualmente de que a él también lo van a matar, con lo que comienza una huida desesperada por diversos países desde los que va informando a Amedo de los acontecimientos por medio de cartas y correos electrónicos. El objetivo de estos correos es que José Amedo los publique en uno de sus libros. En esta cadena de acontecimientos se ven involucrados jueces, militares, empresarios, políticos importantes, agentes de la CIA en connivencia con sus homólogos cubanos y sobre todo se demuestra una vez más que el dinero no entiende de ideologías o credos y está casi siempre por encima de ellos. También se relata en esta novela la relación de José Amedo con los servicios de inteligencia de Hugo Chávez, los cuales le encargaron un comprometido trabajo. En esta historia basada en hechos reales, se mezclan elementos y nombres de ficción para proteger a sus protagonistas más vulnerables, pero se nombra sin tapujos a los poderosos, que mostrarán su cara menos amable y éticamente impresentable. El final queda muy abierto para que el lector saque sus conclusiones y el autor sólo pretende exponer los hechos tal como son.

JOSÉ AMEDO FOUCE nació en Lugo (España) en 1946, aunque vivió toda su infancia y juventud en el País Vasco. En 1968 ingresó en la Policía, donde dedicó su vida profesional a los Servicios de información y a la lucha contra el terrorismo de ETA, organización que intentó atentar contra él al menos en media docena de ocasiones. Sentenciado por su participación en la llamada "guerra sucia" contra ETA como miembro destacado de los denominados Grupos Antiterroristas de Liberación (GAL) y habiendo pasado más de cuatro mil días en prisión, se le recordará por haber contribuido a la caída del gobierno socialista de Felipe González. Forzado por las circunstancias, acusó a sus superiores del ministerio del interior, provocando que éstos fueran condenados a prisión.
