In the not so distant past the idea of legalization of Marijuana was considered the domain of the lunatic left.The film Reefer Madness was still convincing people. But within a small window from the 1960's through the late 1970's, life for young pot smugglers was daunting and filled with much trepidation. Their world consisted of airplanes, boats, shaky connections, shady markets, DEA thugs and putting their lives and freedom on the line for the big pay-off. This was a time when "El Chapo" was in diapers, cartels did not exist, the US was not spending billions on the War on Drugs and movie stars were not interviewing drug lords for Rolling Stone Magazine. Today's brutal gang violence in Mexico has reached epidemic levels. Joe was part of this earlier world south of the border that all seems so innocent now and this is a story about his life and times in the Sierra Madres.
