Within these pages you'll meet the most prolific safe burglar and jewel thief the Pacific Northwest has ever known-a man named Billy. You'll see how Billy was foiled by a shrewd longshoreman eating a ham and cheese sandwich on his lunch break. You'll meet another jewel thief, Chuck, who never could figure out why the Pawn shops in Las Vegas were onto him. Then there were the dangerous women I encountered. Dangerous because they were driven to do terrible things, compelled by addiction to heroin, trapped by a drug which destroys moral boundaries and kills the soul. Or was alcohol their addiction, with a spiked high heel shoe that became their weapon? Finally, you'll see how the morbid specter of heroin drifted into Albina and planted its poisonous seeds. You'll Learn where it came from, who sold it, where it was available, either in a dump apartment, loud nightclub, or out on a chilly street corner. All these real life stories will be shared in The Tainted Rose: Stories from a Portland Detective.
