Authors Bio Tony's police career started in 1989 when he joined the New York City Police Cadet Program as part of a college internship the New York City Police Department was conducting. Eager to become a police officer, Tony dropped out of college and the intern program when he was accepted into the new class of police officers and entered the Police Academy in 1990 as a recruit in one of the largest classes in the history of the NYPD. After completion of the Police Academy, Tony was assigned to the 28th Precinct in Harlem. After years on patrol, experiencing each tour of duty available, he went to the Community Policing Unit where he found his niche and excelled at his work, becoming one of the most active cops in the Precinct and getting involved in as many different aspects of police work the Precinct could offer. As a result of his work ethic, arrest record and willingness to take on assignments, he was promoted to the rank of Detective in 1999. He remained in the 28th Precinct continuing the work at the precinct level doing the work he thoroughly enjoyed and taking on additional responsibilities and assignments. Throughout the first ten years of his career, along with being promoted, he went back to college and finished his undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Criminal Law, earning a Bachelor of Science degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in NYC and a Masters program for Early Childhood and Elementary Education at The College of New Rochelle. Having a desire to teach, Tony attended a Police Academy course for instruction and training and taught classes from time to time on various subject matters where he had become expert, such as fencing operations and traffic courtroom testimony. Although he taught veteran, in-service officers in the Academy, he found helping rookie police officers much more rewarding. Tony accepted a Precinct assignment as Senior Field Training Officer where he was able to work side-by-side in a hands-on training program teaching and developing newly appointed police officers. In his twenty plus years as a cop and a detective, Tony never took a single sick day and always tried to do his best. His only goal was to be able to walk away with the respect and admiration of his peers and bosses. Tony always strived to give the job his all and wanted to go out on top, leaving everything he had on the street before he left the job. Tony retired in 2011 and left the job with over 1,100 arrests.
