Knot: A Series Description
The World That Broke Just Right
Somewhere between making sense and making dinner, reality exists as a medieval realm where the gods have fragmented reality into smaller, more manageable bites to play with...Each chapter stands alone like an inebriated person claiming they're perfectly fine... independent, complete, requiring no context except the beautiful acceptance that context is overrated. You could read them backwards, forwards, sideways, or later.. Knot certainly would approve. His demons might argue, but they argue about everything, so that's actually validation.
The Prophet Himself (Or Themselves, Or Whatever)Picture a man who looks like he's been assembled by committee, because he has. Knot Fernow stands at remarkably average height, possessed of remarkably average features, except for how remarkably unaverage everything becomes when six demons are fighting over the controls. His left eye stays focused like a responsible adult. His right eye wanders off on unauthorized adventures. His teeth shine unnaturally white, as if one demon insisted on dental hygiene while the others were busy being dysfunctional.
The Demons: A Taxonomy of DysfunctionRhymes exists in a state of permanent poetic emergency, every thought forced through verse that would make proper poets weep blood:
"I'm the voice that makes him trip,
Words and feet both lose their grip,
Every rhyme must match and meet,
While tangling up his clumsy feet!"
Smell processes everything through aromatic analysis. Danger smells like burnt copper. Love smells like bread that's terrified but optimistic. Divine intervention has notes of ozone, disappointed oranges, and that peculiar scent of someone trying too hard to seem mysterious. This demon provides supernatural sensory awareness, able to detect lies by their sour milk undertones and prophecy by its distinct bouquet of tomorrow's regrets mixed with yesterday's ambitions.
Knot-in-Your-Neck speaks through muscle spasms, joint pain, and strategic discomfort. Despite being a literal pain in the neck (and shoulders, and spine, and occasionally the left knee for variety), this demon knows everything about bodies... how they break, how they heal, how they can be convinced to do impossible things through the correct application of specific aches. Every pain contains information. Every spasm speaks volumes.
KnotTired embodies exhaustion as an art form. This demon provides energy by complaining about not having any, grants endurance through aggressive fatigue, and occasionally insists on rest with the world-weary wisdom of someone who's been tired since before tired was invented. Its voice weighs heavy as stones dropped in still water, each word an effort, each sentence an achievement.
KnotKnowing serves as the information nexus, the prophecy processor, the knowledge that knows it shouldn't be known. This demon remembers things that haven't happened yet, knows facts that don't exist, and provides analytical insights that are technically impossible but pragmatically useful. It's the voice of reason in unreasonable circumstances, which makes it possibly the most insane demon of all.
KnotMine represents pure, unfiltered want. Inappropriate touching, suggestive comments, boundary violations that would make social contracts weep... and kleptomania. This demon embodies the id without the ego's interference or the superego's scolding..
The world is broken.Knot Fernow is broken.
Reality is broken.
These books are broken. And that's exactly as it should be.
