The novel's main character, Tom Sanders, is a dedicated runner. He trains every day for marathons, but he also runs to escape his problems, craving the runner's high. The story follows Tom's quest to find peace and purpose in his life. Throughout his journey, he experiences various forms of suffering and loss, but he grows from these experiences and emerges stronger and more focused.

After traveling from Tucson to Vancouver, Tom was captivated by the beauty and inspiration of the American desert. However, he eventually finds himself penniless in a Victoria RV park, struggling to make ends meet.

While searching for a way to turn his life around, Tom learns about an intriguing research project that aims to discover a shortcut to enlightenment. Eager for financial support, he seizes the opportunity to participate.

Though the book provides no easy answers, it leaves readers feeling more aware and attuned to the power of the true self.

Reid, Douglas: -

The author, Douglas Reid, is retired from teaching in Federal Corrections and lives and writes in Abbotsford, BC. He is a member and former Area Representative of the Federation of BC Writers and Canadian Authors Association, and was a member of Rainwriters, a writing critique group.

His first published novel, The Buddha Technology, is a coming-of-age story that explores spirituality and love lost and found. It explores finding a niche in a complicated world.

His second novel, Green Troop: Poisoned River, is a young adult environmental saga. Four high school students work together to expose the crimes of a chemical company and their biker accomplices.

He loves travel, and this, his third novel, Neath the Hollow Hill, is a romance set in Ireland.

He has been long-listed for short story competitions for both the 2022 CBC Short Story and the Federation of BC Writers Short Story competitions.

He is also the proud owner of a yellow lab.
