About The Book

Manny's a good-ol-boy from the mountains of Virginia, who grew up in the foster care system. As an adult he provides a home for foster children and one of the children is Maria. She is ten years old when her parents, who were illegal immigrants, were deported back to El Salvador. She and her baby sister were left in America.

Her parents believed it was a better alternative to living in a country at war, so they made the heart-wrenching decision to leave them behind... thus entering them into the bowels of the foster care system. Maria and her sister were separated, as was her Aunt Ana. Aunt Ana was on the run!

Maria wasn't placed at Manny's Acres until she is almost fifteen years old. She bounced from foster home to home in the interim. Manny and Maria become a team as they provide love and care to Suzy, Oliver, Joey and a lot more children... and horses. Lots of horses. But Maria never stopped hoping to find out the truth about what happened to her family. Where's my sister... Mama? Maria loved Manny's philosophy: 'You don't have to be blood to be a family, ' but she needed answers.

Manny loved people. All people. Foster children, immigrants, gays, homeless, Black, White, Hispanic, anybody and everybody. He even loved the dead that were buried on his property.
