A Nobody, Douglas Mayers
At the tender age of 13, Douglas Mayers discovered his passion for poetic expression.
Born with a natural inclination for creativity, he delved into the world of hip hop and
reggae music, crafting rhymes and wraps throughout his teenage years. The rhythmic
beats and soulful melodies of the islands left an indelible mark on his artistic
sensibilities.
Little did Douglas know that these early experiences would lay the foundation for his
future as a storyteller. During a pivotal semester, he honed his ability to articulate
thoughts and emotions through words. However, the idea of becoming an author hadn't
yet crossed his mind. His creative spirit led him to weave imaginary stories, effortlessly
crafting narratives around people and events he observed.
Life took an unexpected turn when Douglas served as an officer for 11 1/2 years,
followed by a 7 1/2-year tenure at Home Depot. Seeking autonomy and driven by an
entrepreneurial spirit, he made the bold decision to become his own boss. Relocating
with his family to Florida marked the beginning of a new chapter.
A transformative period ensued as Douglas and his wife Jennifer and Douglas Jr
embarked on a journey to attain a certificate in childcare. Spending 17 years in
Barbados, they established two childcare centers, contributing to the community while
nurturing the growth of the next generation.
It was during this time that Douglas, a quiet and aloof person not seeking fame but open
to fortune, began to contemplate the idea of sharing his creativity on a broader canvas.
