A Critical Response to Indian English Literature presents a collection of essays on major voices in Indian English writing, including Sri Aurobindo, Raja Rao, Mulk Raj Anand, Kamala Markandaya, Arundhati Roy and Manoj Das. It examines concepts ranging from symbolism and poetics to ethnicity, feminism, poverty and social critique, offering careful, text-based analysis. Situating Indian English Literature within its long historical trajectory, from its colonial origins to its current place in global academia, the book draws attention to areas often overlooked in existing scholarship. Intended for students, teachers and researchers, it provides critical insights into the literary achievements and concerns of Indian writers who chose English as their medium of expression, while engaging with the cultural and political contexts of their work.
