Building A Nation: Nehru, Patel and the Politics of India's Independence explores the complex and significant relationship between Jawaharlal Nehru and Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, a defining partnership in India's struggle for independence. Through an epistolary narrative drawn from correspondences, speeches, and diary entries, including those of Mahatma Gandhi and Maniben Patel, the book traces the evolving association between Nehru and Patel from 1947 to 1950. It revisits pivotal political moments, leadership contests, and ideological differences within the Congress, alongside instances of cooperation and shared national purpose. Set in the turbulent years of a newly independent India, the narrative moves beyond familiar binaries to reveal the complexity of leadership and decision-making. Richly researched and engagingly presented, it offers fresh insights into the making of modern India and the enduring legacy of its founding statesmen.

Sheshrao Chavan is a distinguished author and thought leader in modern Indian history, politics, and constitutional studies. With over two dozen books to his credit, his work examines the ideas and relationships of key figures such as Mahatma Gandhi, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and Jawaharlal Nehru, offering valuable insights into nation-building and governance. He is the former Chairman of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Aurangabad Kendra and has served as Vice-President (Worldwide) of the Association of World Citizens. An engaging speaker, he has participated in numerous national and international conferences.
