About The Book

The book introduces the basics of particle technology to readers who have the related topics within the subject called Mechanical Operations in Under-Graduate and Particle Technology in some Post-Graduate programs. It introduces the basic framework of the subject upon which the readers may pursue their interest further with the help of a large number of excellent books and literature available. Based on author’s academic exposure to powder technology program in England, followed by extensive operating experience in detergents, fertilizers, and petrochemical industries; and further strengthened by teaching the subject in various technical institutions in India, the book tries to represent the subject of particle or particulate or powder technology as an integral part of chemical engineering discipline, discussing from catalytic hydrocracking operations of oil and gas industry to the most critical pharmaceutical manufacturing as the particles are involved in various unit operations such as mixing, drying, filtration, size reduction, catalytic cracking, transportation, and waste-water treatment. Throughout the book, the text has been presented in simple to assimilate language with adequate illustrations. Examples or problems with solutions have been provided wherever needed as in most cases, the solutions can be derived simply by substituting the numbers in given empirical equations.

About The Author

M.N. Vyas, M.S. in Chemical Engineering (University of Bradford, U.K.), P.G. Diploma in Chemical Engineering (Kings College, University of London, U.K.), has extensive industry and teaching experience in the field of chemical engineering. He was the first Gujarati to be elected as fellow of the Institution of Chemical Engineers, London, and made Registered Chartered Engineer, London, for his contribution in the field of Chemical Engineering. He worked for Unilever, Port Sunlight, U.K., for five years as Development Technologist. After his return to India, he joined Indian Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd. (IPCL), Baroda as Project Engineer. In his 29 years of practical exposure to various petrochemical plants of IPCL, he held senior positions in project, plant commissioning, operations, and technical services. He superannuated as General Manager (Operations) and General Manager (Health Safety and Environment). After getting retirement from IPCL, he is working as a consultant and visiting professor in Chemical Engineering to chemical industries and technical institutions in Gujarat.
