Mechanical Oscillations and Sound Waves offers a focused and well-structured introduction to the oscillatory motion of material particles (with defined mass) and rigid bodies, laying a strong foundation for understanding the generation, propagation and fundamental properties of sound waves.

Developed in alignment with the UGC curriculum guidelines under NEP 2020, the book is tailored to meet the academic needs of undergraduate students across Indian universities and colleges. It presents the evolution of key concepts, laws and mathematical frameworks in a comprehensive and systematic manner. Written in a classroom-teaching style, it is ideally suited for both guided learning and independent study.

Key Features

  • Systematic presentation of the subject matter
  • Clear explanation of theoretical and mathematical concepts
  • Real-world applications to enhance understanding
  • Solved examples and end-of-chapter exercises for practice

Dr. Nikhil Ranjan Roy is a Professor and former Head of Department, PG Department of Physics, Ranchi University, Jharkhand. With over four decades of teaching experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, his research primarily focused on Quantum Mechanics. He has successfully guided several PhD candidates and, post-retirement, continues to contribute to academia through writing and mentoring. His published works include Elements of Nuclear Physics (2024), Introduction to Classical Mechanics (2016), and Introduction to Quantum Mechanics (2015).

Dr. Rakesh Kumar Pandey serves as Assistant Professor in the University Department of Physics, Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag, Jharkhand. He earned his PhD under the mentorship of Dr. N. R. Roy, specializing in Non-linear Optics and Quantum Mechanics. With over three decades of teaching experience, he is currently guiding two PhD scholars. He is the co-author of Elements of Nuclear Physics (2024) alongside Dr. N. R. Roy.
