Postmodernism in Indian English literature refers to the works of literature after 1980. If Raja Rao’s Kanthapura (1938) marks modernism, Salman Rushdie’s Midnight’s Children (1981) and Nissim Ezekiel’s Latter-Day Psalms (1982) mark postmodernism in Indian English literature. In this book, Dr. Bijay Kumar Das has analysed Postmodern Indian English literature genre-wise—Poetry, novel, short story, drama and autobiography. This is a critical history of Indian English literature in the postmodern period, meant for students, researchers as well as teachers who seek an introduction to it.

Bijay Kumar Das, Ph.D., D.Litt., is a contributor to The Encyclopaedia of World Literature in the 20th Century (New York). He has published a number of books and research papers on British Literature, Postcolonial Literature, Literary Criticism, Translation Studies and Comparative Literature. His important books include Twentieth Century Literary Criticism (4th revised and enlarged edition, 2002), Shiv K. Kumar as a Postcolonial Poet (2001), The Poetry of Jayanta Mahapatra (1995, 2001), Critical Essays on Postcolonial Literature (1999), The Horizon of Translation Studies (1998), Aspects of Commonwealth Literature (1995), The Horizon of Nissim Ezekiel’s Poetry (1995), Critical Essays on Poetry (1993), Perspectives on Indian English Poetry Criticism (1993), A Reader’s Guide to Ten Twentieth Century Indian Poets (1993, 1997, 1999), Modern Indian English Poetry (1992), Critical Perspectives on ‘Relationship’ and ‘Latter-Day Psalms’ (1986), Modern Indo-English Poetry (1982) and A Study of Sarojini Naidu’s Poetry (1977). He has edited three reference books—Comparative Literature (2000), Perspectives on the Poetry of R. Parthasarathy (1983, 1998) and Contemporary Indo-English Poetry (1986). He has edited and co-edited several textbooks including Nineteenth Century English Poetry (OUP, 1992).
