About The Book

The book deals with the ways and means to communication in the professional world. It has been written keeping in mind the needs of the students in their day-to-day dealings in their student life, career, and beyond. The purpose of this book is to help the students in enhancing their communication skills by developing a better understanding of the various concepts, processes, and applications in real life situations in order to become effective communicators. The book deals with various theories and aspects of professional communication. It studies the basics of communications, such as significance, process, and ways to achieve effective communication; 7Cs of communication; types of communication; barriers to communication; and the ways to remove the barriers to communication. It discusses how communication is carried out in organizations and takes into account the flow of communication in organizations along with static and dynamic communication. It also discusses channels of communication and various models of communication. It studies the four communication skills—Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing, and briefly tries to cover all the related aspects of these skills, mentioning their process, types, and barriers. The book makes additions to the existing concepts and ideas in this field and comes up with additions such as reliability chain, procrastinated listening, KICK-KILT in presentations, and Catch-22 situation in group discussions.

About The Author

Dr. Amna Shamim, having an experience of more than sixteen years, is presently working as an Assistant Professor at the Department of English, College of Science and Arts, University of Bisha, Al-Namas, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Prior to this, she worked as an Assistant Professor of English in Integral University, Lucknow, India. She holds a diploma in Counselling and Communication from the University of Lucknow and has also earned certificates for having worked hard to complete courses on ‘Teaching English as a Second Language’ and ‘Understanding Languages’ from IGNOU, Lucknow, and University of Southampton and British Council, respectively. She has total nine published books to her credit which include four authored books along with a number of research articles published in various journals and anthologies of national and international repute. Her areas of expertise include Feminism, African Literature in English, Poetry, Creative Writing, Technical Writing, Professional Communication, and Free-verse/Experimental Poetry. She has also guided four doctoral research on African/Indian Feminist Drama, Indian English Feminist Poetry, and Travelogue. Author can be reached at amnashamim2036@gmail.com.
