Dr. S.L. Srivastava obtained his Master degree in Physics from the University of Gorakhpur in 1963. He was junior research fellow of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research from 1963 to 1966. He was appointed Lecturer in Physics at the University of Gorakhpur now known as DDU Gorakhpur University and in 1996 he became Professor of Physics. The major field of his research was experimental spectroscopy specially the spectroscopic studies of heterocyclic molecules of Biological interest. Five scholars have obtained Ph.D. degree under his supervision. His forty research papers have been published in reputed national and international journals. Besides, a large number of papers have been presented in scientific conferences and symposia.
