Es handelt sich bei der AI um einen werte-orientierten Ansatz aus dem Bereich der Team- und Personalentwicklung. Die Betrachtung und Ausführung der Fragestellung wird dabei auf die älteren Mitarbeiter kleiner und mittlerer Unternehmen (KMU) begrenzt, die sich auch durch die Anzahl an Mitarbeitern mit 50 bis 250 Mitarbeitern definieren. Zunächst werden grundlegende Definitionen zur (beruflichen Handlungs-) Kompetenz und Qualifikation vorgestellt. Nachfolgend wird in Kapitel 3 der ältere Mitarbeiter in seiner Altersspanne, mit Schwächen, Stärken und Kompetenzen, sowie seinem Lernverhalten betrachtet. Dann folgt die Vorstellung der Methode der Appreciative Inquiry. Vor dem Fazit soll in Kapitel 5 durch eine Diskussion beleuchtet werden, inwieweit und in welchem Umfang beziehungsweise Zusammenhang die Methode in Bezug auf die zuvor dargelegten Aspekte der jeweiligen Kapitel in KMU anwendbar und zielführend ist.
