Dies erinnert stark an das Modell des Clash of Civilizations von Samuel P. Huntington, welches er 1993 in seinem Artikel "The Clash of Civilizations?" veröffentlichte. Auch dort spaltet sich Europa in zwei Lager, besser ausgedrückt Zivilisationen: eine westlich-christlich geprägte und eine orthodox geprägte Zivilisation Europas sowie genau genommen noch eine dritte, islamisch geprägte. Nach Beendigung des Kalten Krieges und damit auch dem Ende der ideologischen Teilung Europas folge nun eine neue Teilung anhand kultureller Unterschiede zwischen den besagten Zivilisationen. Bei Betrachtung der Menschenrechtssituation für Schwule und Lesben in Europa stellt sich daher die Frage, ob der Umgang verschiedener Nationen mit Homosexuellen ein Muster aufweist, welches Huntingtons These der acht Zivilisationen unterstützen würde oder nicht. In der wissenschaftlichen Literatur wurden zwei Beiträge gefunden, die sich bereits mit diesem Thema beschäftigt haben und zu unterschiedlichen Ergebnissen kamen. Aus diesen Überlegungen leitet sich nun die Forschungsfrage der vorliegenden Arbeit ab: Führt die kulturelle Globalisierung homosexueller (Zusammen-)Lebensmodelle zu einem neuen Clash of Civilizations nach Samuel P. Huntington?
