Er ist in der seltenen Form des Briefromans geschrieben, was dem Schriftsteller erlaubt, die Geschichte, zwar in der "Ich-Form", aber dennoch aus verschiedenen Perspektiven heraus erz�hlen zu k�nnen. In seinen vorhergehenden Werken "Kanak-Sprak", "Abschaum" und "Koppstoff" geht Feridun Zaimoglu der Frage nach, wie es sich als "Kanake" in Deutschland lebt, aber auch, wie die Deutschen mit diesem "Kanaken" umgehen. Er kritisiert dabei beide Seiten, indem er zeigt, dass es sowohl Einwanderer gibt, die sich nicht, oder nur so weit wie unbedingt n�tig, integrieren wollen, als auch Deutsche, die von einer all zu gelungenen Integration nichts wissen m�chten oder soviel Integration von den Einwanderern erwarten, dass duies nicht mehr zu leisten ist. Diese kritischen Inhalte packt er dabei in beisenden Humor und er verleiht der typischen Sprache der "Kanaksta", also der hier lebenden, zumeist Jugendlichen Immigranten, Ausdruck, welche ein Mischmasch aus t�rkischer Grammatik, Deutsch und Stra enslang darstellt und durch Zaimoglu erstmals literarische Verwendung findet. Mit "Liebesmale, scharlachrot" legte der Schriftsteller im Jahr 2000 eine au ergew�hnliche Liebesgeschichte vor, die nichts von dem vermissen l�sst, was man von ihm gewohnt ist, auch wenn der Stoff, wie er selbst sagt, nicht mehr ganz so hart ist, wie in den vorhergehenden B�chern. Der Roman wird in kurzen Abschnitten und aus verschiedenen Perspektiven erz�hlt und behandelt nicht zuletzt auch ganz triviale, allt�gliche Probleme eines "Deutschlings" oder auch "Deutschl�nders".
