Was lässt sich heute unter dem Begriff "Heimat" verstehen"? Was bedeutet Heimat für eine in der DDR aufgewachsene Generation? Und was geht für jene Generation verloren, als die DDR zusammenbricht? Diesen Fragen wird anhand unterschiedlicher Romane von Wendegenerationsautoren nachgegangen. Die Romane "Simple Storys. Ein Roman aus der ostdeutschen Provinz" sowie "Neue Leben. Die Jugend Enrico Türmers in Briefen und Prosa. Herausgegeben, kommentiert und mit einem Vorwort versehen von Ingo Schulze" von Ingo Schulze, "Wie es leuchtet" von Thomas Brussig, "Moskauer Eis" von Annett Gröschner, "Abwesend" von Gregor Sander und "Als wir träumten" von Clemens Meyer werden in Hinblick auf Heimatverlustdarstellungen untersucht. Dabei arbeitet dieser vorliegende Band vor allem das ambivalente Gefühl des Heimatverlustes heraus, das den Helden in den untersuchten Romanen widerfährt, denn gerade eben diese Wendegeneration ist in den Romanen verunsichert: Haben sie doch auf der einen Seite schon lange mit den Wertvorstellungen der DDR gebrochen, ist die DDR doch andererseits etwas Vertrautes, das Orientierung schafft. Das Auflösen dieses Staates innerhalb weniger Wochen führt die Protagonisten nicht selten in eine Krise, die zwar etwas Kollektives hat, mit der jedoch am Ende jeder alleine fertig werden muss. Dieser Akt der Bewältigung will jedoch nicht jeder Figur gelingen. Ob und wie ein Heimatverlust die Protagonisten trifft, ist die entscheidende Frage, mit der sich diese literaturwissenschaftliche Arbeit beschäftigt und an deren Ende ein differenzierter Blick auf exemplarische Werke ausgewählter Wendegenerationsautoren geworfen wird. Neben den Romananalysen bietet die hier vorliegende Arbeit auch einen umfassenden Einblick in theoretische und sozialhistorische Verständnisse von Heimat. Aufbauend auf dem Konzept der Soziologen Alfred Schütz und Vilém Flusser ermöglicht dieser Band einen methodisch gesicherten Zugang zu literaturwissenschaftlichen Überlegungen, die für jeden Liter
