Auch in Johann Wolfgang Goethes 1774 publiziertem Briefroman "Die Leiden des jungen Werthers" wird der Realitätsverlust durchaus thematisiert: Der Protagonist Werther schreibt fortlaufend Briefe an seinen Freund Wilhelm, aus denen immer deutlicher hervorgeht, dass er selbst in besonderem Ma davon 'betroffen' ist. Wohl auch deshalb mehren sich in den letzten Jahren die Versuche, den "Werther" unter psychoanalytischen Aspekten interpretieren zu wollen. Diese für die "Werther"-Forschung durchaus früchtetragenden Arbeiten konzentrieren ihren Blick allerdings eher auf die melancholische Erkrankung Werthers oder seine Gesamtpersönlichkeit; weniger aber wird darin die Entwicklung seines Realitätsverlustes im Ganzen nachvollzogen. Aus diesem Grund soll deren Analyse Gegenstand der vorliegenden Untersuchung sein. Insbesondere wird der Fragestellung nachgegangen, welche Ursachen, Symptome und Folgen des Realitätsverlustes sich für die Hauptfigur des Romans abzeichnen. Zuerst wird dabei das Interesse auf die Erzählform gestützt, weil es sich - wie bereits erwähnt - bei "Die Leiden des jungen Werthers" um einen Briefroman handelt, in dem das subjektive Erleben und Empfinden des Protagonisten eine besondere Rolle spielt und auch eine methodische Funktion übernimmt. U.a. lässt sich daraus die Genese des Realitätsverlustes ableiten, auf die das Augenmerk im nächsten Abschnitt der Arbeit zu richten sein wird. Hier sollen insbesondere Werthers Kindheit, seine Flucht in die Isolation und die damit verbundene Ichbezogenheit untersucht werden. Denn aus jenen Ursachen ergibt sich letztendlich Werthers Fehldeutung der Umwelt, die im nächsten Abschnitt der Arbeit unter Berücksichtigung seiner Naturwahr-nehmung und der falschen Interpretation von Lottes Verhalten näher erläutert werden soll, um abschlie end die Fo
