This is a completely revised edition of Gold Medallion Award-winning Expositor's Bible Commentary. This revised commentary has undergone substantial revisions that keep pace with current evangelical scholarship and resources. Just as its previous edition, it offers a major contribution to the study and understanding of the Scriptures. Providing pastors and Bible students with a comprehensive and scholarly tool for the exposition of the Scriptures and the teaching and proclamation of the gospel, this ten-volume reference work has become a staple of seminary and college libraries and pastors' studies worldwide. Its fifty-six contributors---thirty of them are new---represent the best in evangelical scholarship committed to the divine inspiration, complete trustworthiness, and full authority of the Bible. As before, The Expositor's Bible Commentary features full NIV text, but also refers freely to other translations and to the original languages. In addition to its exposition, each book of the Bible has an introduction, outline, and an updated bibliography. Notes on textual questions and special problems are correlated with the expository units; transliteration and translation of Semitic and Greek words make the more technical notes accessible to readers unacquainted with the biblical languages. In matters where marked differences of opinion exist, commentators, while stating their own convictions, deal fairly and irenically with opposing views.
Austel, Hermann J.: - Hermann Austel was professor of Hebrew and Old Testament at Northwest Baptist Seminary. He coauthored Kings in the Expositor's Bible Commentary and was a contributor to the New International Dictionary of Old Testament Theology and Exegesis.
Garland, David E.: -
David E. Garland (PhD, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) is professor emeritus of Christian Scriptures George W. Truett Seminary, Baylor University. He is the author of A Theology of Mark's Gospel and has written commentaries on each of the Synoptic Gospels, Acts, Romans, both Corinthian epistles, Colossians, and Philemon. He also serves as the New Testament editor for the revised Expositor's Bible Commentary.
Longman III, Tremper: -
Tremper Longman III (PhD, Yale University) is a distinguished scholar and Professor Emeritus of Biblical Studies at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California. He is on the advisory council of the BioLogos Foundation, and is the Old Testament editor for the revised Expositor's Bible Commentary and general editor for the Story of God Bible Commentary Old Testament, and has authored many articles and books on the Psalms and other Old Testament books.
Longman III, Tremper: -
Tremper Longman III (PhD, Yale University) is the Robert H. Gundry Professor of Biblical Studies and the chair of the Religious Studies department at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, where he lives with his wife, Alice. He is the Old Testament editor for the revised Expositor's Bible Commentary and general editor for the Story of God Bible Commentary Old Testament and has authored many articles and books on the Psalms and other Old Testament books.
Patterson, Richard D.: - Richard D. Patterson (PhD, University of California, Los Angeles) is distinguished professor emeritus, Liberty University. He has been involved in twelve different Bible projects either as a translator, peer reviewer, or contributor. He has written well over 100 articles for major publishers and periodicals, and has served as associate editor of Zondervan's New International Dictionary of Old Testament Theology and Exegesis. He is currently authoring Joel and Kings (with Hermann Austel) for the second edition of the Expositor's Bible Commentary series. He and his wife, Anna, live in Simpsonville, South Carolina.
Youngblood, Ronald F.: - Dr. Ronald Youngblood is a graduate of Valparaiso University (BA), Fuller Theological Seminary (BD), and the Dropsie College for Hebrew and Cognate Learning (PhD). He has served as professor of Old Testament at Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, Wheaton Graduate School, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, and Bethel Seminary in San Diego, and is currently serving in the same capacity at International College and Graduate School in Honolulu. He is an associate editor of the NIV Study Bible; author of 1 and 2 Samuel in the Expositor's Bible Commentary series; and a co-translator and co-editor of the Holy Bible, New International Version. He has also edited and/or written ten other volumes, including Nelson's New Illustrated Bible Dictionary, for which he was awarded the Gold Medallion Book Award by the Evangelical Christian Publishers Association.
