Verificou-se, de forma inesperada, que o TCMB incolor reagiu vigorosamente com a piridina � temperatura ambiente, dando origem a produtos de cor intensa. Em rea��es com alguns outros heteroarom�ticos contendo azoto (incluindo pesticidas), tais como azinas, az�is ou benzaz�is, ocorreu igualmente a forma��o de produtos semelhantes. A rea��o foi regioseletiva, uma vez que ambas as posi��es α adjacentes ao(s) �tomo(s) de azoto n�o devem ser substitu�das, e sens�vel. No entanto, as tentativas de desenvolver dos�metros para a nicotina falharam. Numa rea��o pr�-cromatogr�fica de o-diamina arom�tica com metil-tricloroacetimidato, formaram-se derivados de TCMB in situ. Ap�s an�lise por TLC e visualiza��o em vapores de piridina, foi aplicado para a dete��o de o-fenilenodiaminas. O produto da rea��o amaranto de TCMB e piridina (Complexo LI) foi isolado e identificado. Foram propostos dois mecanismos de rea��o diferentes para azinas e az�is. Em �gua, o Complexo LI pode ser utilizado como indicador na an�lise de sais inorg�nicos e na titula��o �cido-base. O trabalho destina-se a investigadores e estudantes de qu�mica org�nica ou anal�tica.
