ソフトウェア開発に30年間携わった後、デイビッド・マクアダムスは新しいことに挑戦しようと考えました。彼は数学がどのように教えられているかに目を向けました。ユタバレー大学での課程を通じて、語彙の習得がすべての学習、特に数学においていかに重要であるかを学びました。数学は長い間、独自の構文や記号を持つ独自の言語と見なされてきました。この言語の習得が多くの学生にとって障壁であることがわかっています。

孫のソーヤーに色の名前に関する本を読んでいるとき、大人にとって色の名前に関する本がいかに退屈かを考え始めました。「自然界の中で、子供たちに色の名前を教えるための基本色と二次色が十分に揃っているものは何だろう？」と考えた結果、最初の答えはカエルかオウムでした。そして、オウムの色彩、花の色彩、宇宙の色を制作しました。

数学に戻り、マクアダムス氏は子供たちが形を学ぶのを助けるための本形を作りました。彼は若い頃、幾何学的ネットのいくつかのプリントアウトを見つけ、それらがどのように折り畳まれて複雑な3次元のオブジェクトになるのかに魅了されたことを思い出しました。そして、展開図 プロジェクト集、さらに多くの幾何学的ネットを切り抜いて組み立てられるGeometric Nets Mega Project Bookを準備しました。
