Im Ausland ist der 3D-Druck in der Baubranche an Hand weniger Praxisbeispiele bereits Realität. Auch in Deutschland kann sich die Umsetzung zukünftig als sinnreich erweisen, um vielseitigen Problematiken entgegen zu wirken. Weltweit sind unzählige Menschen von einem Mangel an verfügbarem und vor allem bezahlbarem Wohnraum betroffen. Des Weiteren zeigen Naturkatastrophen immer wieder auf, wie wichtig die Nachhaltigkeit auch in der Baubranche ist. Die additive Fertigung kann dazu beitragen dem entgegenzuwirken, denn Häuser aus dem 3D-Drucker sind durch den günstigeren Druckprozess preislich kosteneffizienter zu erwerben. Dadurch können sie einen Beitrag zur Bekämpfung des internationalen Mangels an bezahlbarem Wohnraum leisten. Au erdem ist der Druck von Häusern im Vergleich zum konventionellen Bau schneller und kann zudem direkt vor Ort angewendet werden. Dies hat den Vorteil, beispielsweise nach Naturgefahren, in kürzerer Zeit Ersatzunterkünfte drucken zu können. Zusätzlich erweisen sich die 3D-Bauten als ökologisch nachhaltiger und aufwendige architektonische Designs sind deutlich einfacher herzustellen. Im Ausland werden die Vorteile bereits erkannt, indem die digitalisierte Technik immer mehr Einzug hält und weiter voranschreitet. In Deutschland dagegen ist der 3D-Druck von Häusern noch nicht marktattraktiv genug, da die Technologie nicht ausreichend genug erforscht ist und zahlreiche Hürden, wie zum Beispiel die Gesetzeslage, der additiven Fertigung im Weg stehen. Die Anwendung des 3D-Drucks für den Bau von Gebäuden au erhalb der Erde sieht dagegen anders aus. Auf dem Mond oder Mars möchten Wissenschaftler die Technologie so schnell wie möglich anwenden und umsetzen, da der 3D-Druck im Weltall die einzig mögliche Bauweise ist, die umgesetzt werden kann.
