The first story follows the life of a young woman named Am��lie, who works as a cigarette maker in Paris. She falls in love with a wealthy man named Baron de la Logerie, but their relationship is met with disapproval from his family. The second story takes place in Arabia and follows the adventures of a young man named Khaled. He falls in love with a beautiful woman named Yasmin, but their love is challenged by the customs and traditions of their culture. The two stories eventually intertwine when Am��lie and Baron de la Logerie travel to Arabia and meet Khaled and Yasmin. The novel explores themes of love, culture clash, and the struggle between tradition and modernity.1890. With frontispiece. F. Marion Crawford was one of the more famous authors in the English-speaking world at the time of his death in 1909. He wrote over forty novels, most of which were in the style of disposable romances popular at the time. He also wrote stories of the horror and occult, which are generally the ones for which he is remembered today. He claims to be a Russian count who is temporarily down on his luck, but everyone thinks he's mad! Khaled is an Arabian nights fantasy written by Crawford during an 1890 journey to Arabia.
