His translations and writings on Eastern cultures and languages were highly regarded in his time. George Small, M.A., was a former missionary in Calcutta and Benares and a member of the Philological Society of London. He authored A Handbook of Sanskrit Literature (1866) and A Concise Grammar of the Hindústání Language (1858), contributing significantly to linguistic studies during the 19th century. His works provided essential resources for understanding Sanskrit and Hindustani, aiding scholars and administrators in colonial India. Small’s expertise and dedication to language studies have cemented his legacy as a valuable figure in philology and Indian linguistic research.
