Philosophers of all persuasions claim that it is only phenomenology that can show us the way out of the philosophical cul de sac and can lead us to the disclosure of the structures of Consciousness and Life-world. The present work analyses such proud claims threadbare from the viewpoints of: Psychology, Existentialism, Marxism and Indian philosophies. It also includes the author’s own criticisms of phenomenology. But the book is not all negative in attitude; it also gives an account of the plus-points of phenomenology. In addition, chapter I of the book briefly introduces phenomenology itself, which will help even the uninitiated pursue the arguments of the work.

Dr. S.K. Sarker holds Ph.D. in Philosophy and in English and is interested in diverse fields of study. Currently he is a Reader in Raiganj (University) college and a Part-time Lecturer in Raiganj B.Ed. College. He has published about a dozen articles in journals of international repute. This is Dr. Sarker’s third published work, the other two being Freud : Biography and Psychoanalysis and Shakespeare’s Knowledge of Human Nature. Himu, his book in history, is also being published by the Atlantic Publishers very shortly. At present, the author is engaged in Post-Doctoral researches in Philosophy.
