**A Dictionary of Musical Terms** by Theodore Baker is an extensive reference guide containing over 9,000 musical terms and phrases in English, French, German, Italian, Latin, and Greek. It provides clear, concise definitions along with pronunciation guides, especially for foreign terms. Preceded by rules for pronouncing Italian, German, and French, the dictionary is tailored for students, composers, and performers seeking accurate understanding and usage of musical language. The supplement includes an English-Italian vocabulary designed to aid composers in writing musical instructions. Baker’s work remains a valuable tool for enhancing musical literacy, precision, and cross-linguistic communication in the study of music.

Theodore Baker (1851–1934) was a prominent American musicologist known for his influential reference works in music. He authored *Baker's Dictionary of Musical Terms* (1895) and the widely respected *Baker's Biographical Dictionary of Musicians* (1900), which has been updated in later editions by Nicolas Slonimsky and Laura Kuhn. Baker also translated key German music texts, including Oscar Paul's *A Manual of Harmony*, for use in music education. After retiring in 1926, he moved to Leipzig, Germany, due to his wife's health. She died shortly before him in 1934. Baker’s scholarly contributions remain foundational in musicology and music reference literature.
