Born in Raruli-Katipara, Bengal, Ray was influenced by progressive ideals from a young age. He established Bengal Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, India’s first pharmaceutical company. Ray authored A History of Hindu Chemistry (1902), contributing significantly to the study of ancient Indian chemistry. He also founded modern Indian research in chemistry. Ray was honored by the Royal Society of Chemistry for his contributions, and his legacy remains central to India's scientific and educational development.
