From the Back Cover

Set in London during the Black Plague of 1665, this book recounts the most dangerous pandemic of all time, which killed over sixty percent of Europe's population. Told through the diary entries of a young man fighting for his life, A Journal of the Plague Year is a harrowing look into just how far one must go to stay alive.

Defoe, Daniel: -

Daniel Defoe (1660-1731) was an English author known famously for his novel, Robinson Crusoe; the novel has been widely credited as being the first of its kind in pioneering the realistic fiction genre. Defoe was a prolific writer, publishing over 300 works of literature to his name and widely thought of as a prominent figure in various social and political circles during his time. His opinions were never received with immediate certainty as Defoe spent a significant amount of time in jail for writing many pieces of political propaganda. A Journal of the Plague Year was widely debated on its merit as a fictional novel. Editors primarily believed it to be a work of non-fiction, portraying society's lived experience in London circa 1665 through the perspective of Daniel Defoe's uncle, Henry Defoe. It was eventually published as a true work of historical fiction. Daniel Defoe was thought of to have lived dangerously, always on the run from creditors as he had accumulated a substantial amount of debt. As such, it was rumored that he died most likely hiding from debt collectors.
