A Journey to the Center of the Earth is a classic 1864 science fiction novel by Jules Verne. The story involves a German professor who believes there are volcanic tubes going toward the center of the Earth. He, his nephew, and their guide encounter many adventures, including prehistoric animals and natural hazards, eventually coming to the surface again in southern Italy. Other notable books by Jules Verne include 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Around the World in Eighty Days, The Mysterious Island, Five Weeks in a Balloon, and From the Earth to the Moon.

Jules Gabriel Verne (8 February 1828 - 24 March 1905) was a French author who pioneered the science fiction genre. He is best known for his novels Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea (1870), Journey to the Center of the Earth (1864), and Around the World in Eighty Days (1873).
