In A Legacy Arcane, the reader is introduced to a magical world of talking fountains, enchantments, and the eternal power of love, truth and knowledge. Mendiana is a young woman who finds herself lost in confusion. She feels her powers, yet does not understand why she has been given them; she knows that change must occur and that she is somehow responsible for this change, yet she is unclear how to begin. She becomes friends with Darian, who through an enchantment is trapped in the form of a splendid ebony stallion. Like Marta, Mendiana's guardian, Darian reminds Mendiana that she must be patient and that knowledge will come. When Marta leads Mendiana back to the Garden of the Ancients, the girl learns her true name from the voices in the fountains. Falling under the power of Rondar, Mendiana is powerless to break the engagement of marriage foisted upon her. From episodes of violence and then escape, terror and then love, the author creates a character who, through truth and knowledge, learns to use her powers, while at the same time setting free herself, her people and her heart.

Raised in Mesa, Arizona, author Vickie Briscoe earned her BA and MA in English from Northern Arizona University. After teaching in Oregon for four years, she moved to the Orient where she taught English and theatre for more than twenty-five years in Japan. In addition to her writing, Ms. Briscoe is co-owner of the Takara Collection, a company engaged in importing Japanese collectables.
