Vivemos um tempo curioso. Nunca houve tanta informa��o circulando, tanta tecnologia prometendo conforto, tanta gente falando ao mesmo tempo - e talvez nunca tenha sido t�o dif�cil escutar alguma coisa que realmente permane�a. O mundo moderno corre com uma ansiedade quase religiosa em dire��o ao futuro, enquanto o presente vai sendo consumido discretamente diante dos nossos olhos.
As cr�nicas reunidas em A Morte dos Cardeais nasceram justamente desse espanto. Espanto diante de um homem que aperta um bot�o de pedestre sem saber que ele n�o est� conectado a nada. Diante de consumidores emocionados numa loja sem caixa registradora. Diante de algoritmos que sabem o que desejamos antes que n�s mesmos descubramos. Diante de um planeta sufocado por objetos descart�veis produzidos para durar s�culos. Diante da estranha modernidade l�quida que dissolve rela��es, certezas, afetos e at� o sil�ncio. Mas tamb�m h� espa�o aqui para os pequenos milagres cotidianos que ainda insistem em sobreviver ao barulho do mundo: o p�o de queijo ao lado do caf� quente, o vinil girando devagar, o samba de terreiro ecoando no Brooklyn, a cozinha da av�, o gesto simples que salva um dia ruim, uma conversa de botequim sobre tatuzinhos clonados pela natureza sem jamais terem ouvido falar em engenharia gen�tica. Estas cr�nicas n�o pretendem oferecer respostas definitivas. Desconfio cada vez mais delas. Talvez porque o nosso tempo j� esteja saturado de gente excessivamente certa sobre tudo. O que tento fazer aqui � apenas observar. Parar alguns minutos diante do caos moderno e perguntar, com alguma ironia e certa perplexidade, o que exatamente estamos fazendo com a vida. Entre intelig�ncia artificial, cardeais mortos caindo do c�u envenenados por agrot�xicos, turismo moderno, Dostoi�vski, pl�sticos eternos, futuros improv�veis e amores que mudam devagar, existe um fio invis�vel ligando todos estes textos: a tentativa de compreender o homem contempor�neo - esse sujeito permanentemente cansado, hiper conectado, ansioso, cheio de certezas digitais e cada vez mais distante de si mesmo. "A Morte dos Cardeais" n�o fala sobre religi�o, conclaves ou corredores silenciosos do Vaticano. Fala sobre p�ssaros caindo mortos do c�u sem que ningu�m perceba imediatamente o tamanho da trag�dia. Fala sobre venenos invis�veis, sobre o pre�o silencioso do progresso e sobre a estranha capacidade humana de normalizar aquilo que deveria nos horrorizar.
