Enjoy this rendition of a tour from the town of Haines to Chilkoot Lake, a favorite place for bear and other wildlife viewing. Along the way, learn about the natural and human history of Haines and the surrounding area. Included are many great photos of wildlife, plants and scenic views. Whether you plan to visit or have already visited Haines, this book is a must have for anyone interested in the natural history of Haines and vicinity.

Judy Hall Jacobson began to study botany while a student at Cornell University where in 1975 she received a degree in Environmental Conservation. She went on to work for Oregon State University studying old-growth forests in Oregon and Washington and the effects of clear-cutting on wildlife habitat in Southeast Alaska. She has worked as an announcer and producer at public radio station KTOO in Juneau and served as news director at KHNS in Haines. For 14 years she worked as naturalist with Alaska Nature Tours in Haines and has written several books on Alaskan mushrooms including Edible Mushrooms of Alaska and Poisonous Mushrooms of Alaska. She has also written a book on Hawaiian plants. Judy enjoys exploring Alaska and Hawaii with her husband on land and sailing the fiords of Southeast Alaska aboard the M/V Arcturus and in Hawai'i aboard the S/V A'u. She also spent her early years as a technician at the Andrews Experimental Forest in Blue River, Oregon.
