A SECRET LIES DEEP is a fictional exploration of a young woman who harbors secrets that she is reluctant to reveal. At the same time, she seeks answers to questions/secrets that are hidden from her. As the story progresses she learns much about herself, including her sexuality, as she becomes romantically involved, not once, but twice. But the romantic part is only a very interesting and soul-searching subplot which involves whether to reveal one of her secrets which could certainly put her in harm's way. You might think that the subplot would be enough, but the main plot explores much more as it revolves around finding the answers to the secrets eluding her. Eryn eventually does find those answers with the help of her host family in upstate New York while succumbing mentally and physically to some odd paranormal activity as she and a coworker are assigned the task of researching genealogies for their living history museum; more is revealed about her own life than she ever would have thought possible!

As you already know, I am a professional writer, but I'm also a physician. Please don't try looking up medical credentials for JAKe, because that name is my pen-name. I promise you that I am a physician. I spent many years practicing, and by that, I mean working, as an obstetrician and gynecologist. I still maintain three state licenses, but I spend my time now writing. The fictional stories that I have written have sprung out of time spent treating patients. The stories are unique in that although they are fictional, they have much in the way of historical fact and medical fact. They also include humor, although mostly subtle and are flavored with a touch of fantasy. I grew up in a city of near thirty-five thousand in the north-central part of Illinois. My higher education was at Loyola University of Chicago, followed by medical school at Loyola-Stritch School of Medicine. I treated patients for 25 years in Illinois before moving to Ohio, where I now reside. Besides writing, my time is filled taking care of my home, gardening, hiking, and simply enjoying the fresh air outdoors and the beautiful plants and animals that nature provides. I am always trying to introduce new plants that are not invasive, conserve water, and attract a variety of butterflies to my gardens. The reason for wanting to attract butterflies has a story that goes back to my childhood, but rather than relating the whole story, let me just say it mostly has to do with their enthralling colors and the way that their flight seems to be so carefree.
