A Supplication For The Beggars is a book written by Simon Fish in 1871. The book is a satirical piece that criticizes the corruption and hypocrisy of the church and the government during the 16th century in England. The title of the book is a reference to a real-life event where a group of beggars presented a petition to King Henry VIII asking for better treatment. In the book, Fish uses the same format to present a mock petition from the beggars to the King, in which they ask for the church and government to be reformed. The book also includes a dialogue between a beggar and a friar, in which the friar is exposed as a greedy and immoral person. The book was considered controversial at the time of its publication and was banned by the church.
