Eminent linguist and educationist. M.A. in English, Hindi and Linguistics. PhD in Linguistics from Delhi University. Born in 1936, Dehradun.He was Chairman of Commission for Scientific & Terminology, New Delhi, from 1988 to 1994 where he computerized the whole system of English-Hindi technical terms and lexicography. Prior to this he was Professor of Linguistics in Central Institute of Hindi, New Delhi/Agra/ for 10 years till 1995. Later he became advisor in C-DAC, Pune from 1997 to 2004 where he was associated with many programms of computer and web-based language learning packages like Lila Hindi self-taught series. He was also associated with the computer-aided English-Hindi translation system called Mantra.He was a Visiting Professor in University of Bucharest from 1978-1983 and later in the University of Paris, France. He was also a Visiting Professor in Pennsylvanian University, USA. where he developed a Hindi computer grammar for facilitating a computer-aided English Hindi translation system.His major publications: हिंदी का वाक्यात्मक व्याकरण (1985), हिंदी भाषा : संरचना और प्रयोग (1991), angeji-Hindi anuvad vyakaran (2003), Manual de Hindi a l usage de Francophones 1986, Paris University, France and Bucharest University, Romania, etc.Has received numerous awards from the President of India and various academies and govt bodies.
