Die zunehmende Technologisierung und Informatisierung hat neue Bedingungen am Arbeitsmarkt geschaffen, die auch die Machtpotentiale der neuen Mittelschicht verändern. Der gesellschaftliche Diskurs zeigt, dass das Bestehen des Fundaments der modernen Wohlstandsgesellschaft in Frage gestellt wird. Aber wie lässt sich dieses Segment der Gesellschaft wissenschaftlich fassen? Wie kommt es dazu, dass es der Mittelschicht möglich ist sich zwischen die Dualität von Arbeiterklasse und Bourgeoisie zu drängen? Läuft der Mittelstand Gefahr durch die Fortschritte von Wissenschaft und Technik seine besondere Stellung zu verlieren? Um diese Fragen zu beantworten, soll zunächst darauf eingegangen werden, was die Mittelschicht ist und wie sie sich zur Arbeiterklasse abgrenzt. Im nächsten Schritt sollen die Machtpotentiale eben jener Gesellschaftsgruppe näher untersucht werden, um zu verstehen, wie es möglich ist, dass die Mittelschicht ihre Position im Klassenspektrum einnimmt. Schlussendlich soll mithilfe der gewonnenen Erkenntnisse versucht werden zu erkennen, ob die Mittelschicht durch einen Verfall ihrer Machtpotentiale in Gefahr steht ihre privilegierte Position innerhalb der Gesellschaft zu verlieren.
